it's recently come to my attention about a very touchy subject. which i personally find okay. and that is the topic of RELIGION.
really people. religion is part of the whole world, believe it or not. even atheists have something to do with religion and God, they hate it. no matter if you hate a religion or not, it effects your life in one way or another..
now, here in utah it is particularly a very touchy subject, that is, all about being mormon or from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. and if you're not, it's kinda looked down on. now, i find this both funny and sad. because this would only happen here. anywhere else it'd be frowned on TO be a mormon.
i love my particular religion. i am a mormon. i will shout it out loud, i'd die for it in fact. but i can really say, even in my short 16 (almost 17) years of living, i havent always loved it. in fact, when i was in 8th grade, i wanted nothing to do with it. i hated it will every ounce of my body. and i clearly made it known to everyone around me. i didnt act like my religion taught me to do. i didnt do the things i should, or say the thing i should or even act the way i should and was clearly taught to do. i wanted out. and i was determined to get it. then went on for a year or so, but then, i went through, what some may say as a "mighty change of heart". it took a long time, and a lot of hate and tears, but i can now stand proudly and say, i love my religion. i love being a mormon. i love what my religion teaches me and what it stands for, it stands for the truth, and for Chirst. now, i may be sassed and put down for this post, but i don't care. why should i? exactly.
but in all seriousness, i don't know where i'd be without it. i love that i get the chance to renew my covenants each week when i take the sacrament and that i can use the gift of repentance. because it really is a gift. if i come to Him with a "broken heart and a contrite spirit" and really mean what i say and strive to do better, then my mistakes are gone, not just put aside. GONE! how cool is that? i absolutly love it. i love that Jesus Christ was so willing to come down and give His life for me, for you and for all of us. His sacrifice is a gift to us, because He loves us so much. i am forever grateful for the power of Joseph Smith and how he wanted to know, so he saught out the answer to his question inspired by James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." i love these men, and i am forever grateful for their sacrifices for us.
now for those who may not know about mormons and only hear those silly little things about them and jello and 27 wives and horns and such, let me just tell you first hand, thats all nonsense. of course we eat jello though, who doesnt? thats just normal human stuff. as for the 27 wives, that's not practiced anymore, it was back a long time ago, but we don't really believe in that now, but if you were to ask The Sister Wives they'd say otherwise, but thats okay. and as for the horns, that, really? thats just stupid. of course we don't have horns. that'd be pretty cool though. so i thought i'd just clear that up right now.
and lastly about this "touchy subject" is that, i really love people from different religions. i love to hear what they believe, worship and feel. i'm not going to stand and say that i am more high and mighty than thou, because i'm not. we are all equals. religion, no religion, it's all good. it really is. and the thing that messes us all up is, US. we do it ourselves. sad sad truth. but we can also change that, and make things good. we have the power to do anything.
so i stand here to say out loud to everyone, i am proud of who i am and for what i stand for. nothing in this whole entire world could ever make me deny my religion now. i am firm and steady in mind.
Mosiah 5:15 reads; "Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent , may seal you His, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of Him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all."
and President Gordon B. Hinckley once bore his testimony which i love so dearly and he says; "I want to give you my testimony. I know that God our Eternal Father lives, that He is the Great Governor of the universe, and that we are His children, and that somehow He hears and answers the prayers of His children. I want you to know that I know Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, that He left His royal home on high and came down among men-hated and abused of men-and that He went about doing good. He was crucified out of the hatred of people; He rose the third day--'the firstfruits of them that slept'. I also want you to know that the Father and the Son appeared to the boy Joseph Smith and ushered in this marvelous dispensation-- the greatest dispensation in the history of the world."
